Kathleen

Kathleen

Studio Owner, Hot and Yin Teacher

Kathleen moved around very often during her childhood because her father was in the Navy. Her grandparents moved to Saint Augustine in the 80’s and built a home where Kathleen visited every year. It became a home away from home for Kathleen and she eventually moved here to live with her grandmother after college.

Growing up, Kathleen ran cross country and track and field and found great freedom and a sense of wholeness while running. During college while training in a division one track and field program, the physical stress of running unfortunately began to cause her pain in her knee to the point where she really could not race anymore. Running a few miles was about as far as she could go without pain, and the runner’s high and that place of contentment seemed hard to find. After moving to Saint Augustine after college, Kathleen learned to surf, went rollerblading, and enjoyed the sunshine. She waited tables at night and worked at the hospital psychiatric unit during the day. One day her friend Whitney suggested that she try hot yoga and Kathleen was intimidated but decided to give it a try. Following her first class (at Bikram Yoga Saint Augustine!) she felt better than she had in a long time, with no pain. Her yoga journey began.

She loved the hot yoga class at first because of the physical demand, but realized quickly that it helped her stress levels tremendously. Whitney and Kathleen did a 30 day challenge together after her first week of practice, and then she continued to have a regular practice for about a year. Amazingly, the residual pain in her knees from her running career disappeared. During this time she was trying to decide whether to pursue further education in psychology or perhaps become a yoga teacher. She decided to go to the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training, Spring 2010, in Las Vegas. Kathleen ended up meeting Patrick at teacher training and he moved to Florida with her afterwards! She taught for about one year at Bikram Yoga Saint Augustine and the other hot yoga studios in the north Florida area. In the spring of 2011, Kathleen and Patrick moved to New Jersey, near Philadelphia, to assume ownership of Hot Yoga Maple Shade. They taught and nourished a beautiful yoga community in Maple Shade for many years. Kathleen continued to visit Saint Augustine often and hoped to someday return. In March 2018, Kathleen and Patrick moved back to St Augustine to take over The Yoga Collective (formerly Bikram Yoga Saint Augustine) from Kate Vivenzio. In April 2019, Kathleen and Patrick passed the torch of Hot Yoga Maple Shade to fellow hot yoga teachers Stephanie and Fi, now Jtown Hot Yoga Maple Shade.

Kathleen received additional education in teaching prenatal yoga in 2012 and received her Yin yoga certification in May of 2018. Kathleen and Patrick were married in 2013 and have a son, Colin who was born in 2016.

Patrick

Patrick

Studio Owner, Hot and Yin Teacher

A Philadelphia area native, Patrick graduated from the US Naval Academy in 2002 and served as an officer in the Marine Corps for the next five years. It was during this time, while living in the San Diego area, that he took his first Hot Yoga class. He was hooked right from the start. He recalls, “All of my other physical exercise at the time was beating up my body and didn’t seem sustainable over the long term. Hot Yoga was both extremely physically challenging and clearly very good for me.” He also enjoyed the meditative aspect of the practice.

Disillusioned by his time spent in Iraq and Afghanistan, Patrick found peace in a spirituality born of his study of native American wilderness survival/primitive living skills, the writings of Eckhart Tolle, and his yoga practice. He applied to be discharged from the Marine Corps as a conscientious objector and in 2007 his request was granted. He explains, “If you can peel away all of your egoic identities and examine a situation objectively, trying to solve problems with violence and killing is exposed as pretty much insane. I got to a point where I couldn’t be a part of it anymore.”

After bouncing around for a few years playing poker full time in Atlantic City and then later online, Patrick decided to attend Hot Yoga Teacher training in 2010. It was there that he met his future wife and fellow studio owner Kathleen. He recalls, “We weren’t supposed to get romantically involved with the other trainees… we kinda broke that rule.” Following teacher training he moved to Saint Augustine, FL to live with Kathleen, and after teaching in Florida for a year they moved to New Jersey where they owned Hot Yoga Maple Shade. The studio grew and he and Kathleen were married in 2013. In 2018 they had the opportunity to return to Saint Augustine as the owners of The Yoga Collective.  It’s now been more than fifteen years since Patrick took that first Hot Yoga class in California and he hasn’t looked back!

Kate

Kate

Hot, Vinyasa, and Yin Teacher

Kate found Bikram yoga after years of searching for the right thing, the next best thing, anything.  Practicing other yoga in St. Augustine for a couple years, and after hearing through a friend of the amazing benefits of Bikram Yoga, Bikram Yoga St. Augustine opened its doors in 2001 and just 8 days later Kate took her first Bikram Yoga class. Even after she could barely walk out of those doors, each day took her back. Kate started working at the studio, at the desk, cleaning anything she could do to be there more. And the Yoga started working for her, things started changing, she started changing, and she realized this is what she was meant to become. A teacher. In Spring of 2003 Kate headed to LA for the nine weeks that would change her forever.

In 2006 she became the owner of Bikram Yoga St. Augustine, and a new chapter of her life started, a studio owner. This Yoga has given Kate the life she has right now, health, body, mind, and family.

OFF the mat Kate is a Mom to two rocking little girls Zoey Anna and Kaila Mae.

A lot has changed in Kate’s life since 2001 but each day she wakes up knowing Bikram Yoga has not!! And for that she is eternally grateful.

Amanda considers her yoga practice to be a constant journey. Yoga has given her
freedom; physically, by strengthening, lengthening, and changing her shape to
allow for more opportunities; mentally, by teaching her to adapt quickly to stress; spiritually, by showing her that the two are forever interconnected.
Amanda completed the Yin Yoga teacher training with Dennis and Kathy Lang out of Jacksonville and has been sharing her yoga practice ever since!

Courtney

Courtney

Hot, Vinyasa, and Yin Teacher

Growing up, Courtney was always into fitness, running ,dancing, playing sports, doing workout dvd’s, and trying to get her closest friends to get in the habit of exercising with her. She moved to Florida in 2005 and was introduced to the bikram community. Courtney had done yoga before in gym class, but it was nothing like her first bikram yoga class. For her first class she decided to go for a three mile run beforehand and dressed for class in layers; looking back she had no idea how hot it was and felt like she just about died by triangle. It was the most challenging thing she had ever done and because of that she was immediately hooked. She loved that it didn’t matter how strong she was, how fast she was, or how big or small, it was all about concentrating and being in the moment. After practicing for a while Courtney began to participate in the Yoga asana competition and in 2013 she decided to head to Bikram Yoga Teacher Training. She quit her job and moved to California. All in! She started teaching full time after training and she love helping people challenge themselves and discover new strengths within. Her favorite part of teaching is guiding students through class and giving them that extra push with tremendous amounts of enthusiasm to help get them out of their heads and in the moment.

Lakyn

Lakyn

Hot, Vinyasa, and Yin Teacher

Lakyn has always been moved by artistic expression through the body. She started dancing at the age of 3 and was drawn to moving and connecting to my body through this form. As she started to get deeper in this practice, her asthma started to get worse, which led her to start homeschooling at the age of 8. Homeschooling allowed more space for her to exercise her passion of dance. Lakyn started teaching ballet at the age of 13 and taught ballet for 5 years. She traveled and competed in dance from 8-18 and danced professionally for a few years after graduating high school.

At 18 years old, Lakyn truly found yoga and started dabbling in vinyasa, yin, and Pilates. Her love for herself and her body started to grow, this atmosphere and environment was saturated in love and support. She felt alive again!

Lakyn found her Bikram practice when she was 20, as she started working reception at her hometown Bikram studio in Huntsville, AL. The love she found for herself in the Bikram series, was something she had never felt before! She found her best friend in the mirror in this practice, and that is something she thrives for others to find in this series. At 22, she flew from Alabama to Los Angeles and studied at Bikram’s Yoga College of India. She has been teaching full time since returning from training in fall 2013. Her mission in this guidance is to lead others to find their best friend as they see their reflection in the mirror, to find love and positivity within their own souls as she found in hers through 26 postures & 2 breathing exercises.

Lisa

Lisa

Vinyasa and Yin Teacher

Lisa is a Certified RYT200 Yoga Instructor and a Certified Standup Paddleboard (SUP) Yoga Instructor. She discovered yoga in her teen years as a competitive cheerleader and dancer, but she fell in love with the practice of yoga in 2008 after graduating from Flagler College. Her practice consisted mostly of ashtanga, vinyasa and bikram yoga. Despite the differences in each tradition, she loved the consistency of self awareness, breath and body connection, and mindfulness. Yoga has brought healing to her physically and emotionally throughout different seasons of her life.

As an educator and mother, this practice has helped her to inspire her students and her daughters to develop the whole self- physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Yoga has encouraged grace and acceptance towards herself and others, while simultaneously stepping outside of comfort zones and pushing ourselves to a new edge. She believes yoga is a path to self discovery, pouring into oneself and then shining that light into the world as we pour into others. As Lisa develops as a yoga teacher in our ancient little city, she continues to find joy in this beautiful practice and the yoga community of St. Augustine.

My goal is to provide an energetic yoga experience that will fill you with strength, stability, and flexibility, both on and of your mat… or board!”

She uses her passion for music and essential oils to bring energy, synchronicity and balance to her class, creating a fun and energetic flow. Tracy loves being on the water and surrounded by nature.
